Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class(R171) NTG1 Comand APS

NOTE If you have any of the above 2 head units (NTG1 Comand APS or NTG1 Audio 50 APS) then the head unit is separate from audio gateway/sound amplifier on your car. The speaker system will be powered by a fiber optic (MOST) amplifier(audio gateway) located under passenger foot rest. Head units which are run by MOST will have a pair of orange plastic fiber-optic cables on the rear and no speaker outputs. The majority of cables such as speaker wires, power wires and the radio antenna are found under passenger foot rest at the original amplifier. This means that to integrate this aftermarket unit with the car you must run an extension kit to the speaker/power wires under the passenger's seat. Installations requiring the extension are more time consuming than for cars that do not require it, however it is still relatively straight forward. The extension kit is optional, please add it from the drop-box. Check more info about the Extension cord for Mercedes-Benz aftermarket head unit. Note that only four car speakers work after install this kit because the original amplifier/audio gateway is passed and it uses our radio's internal 4*45W amplifier.

Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class(R171) NTG1 Comand APS

NOTE If you have the NTG1 Audio 20 APS/NTG2.5 Comand APS/NTG2.5 Audio 20/50 APS/MCS-II as shown in above photo WITHOUT external Harman/Kardon Logic 7 Surround Sound System in your Mercedes-Benz then the Head Unit and audio gateway are in one component. This aftermarket head unit will be a direct plug-and-play replacement using the standard wiring adapter lead provided.

If you have the NTG1 Audio 20 APS/NTG2.5 Comand APS/NTG2.5 Audio 20/50 APS/MCS-II as shown in above photo WITH external Harman/Kardon Logic 7 Surround Sound System in your Mercedes-Benz then the head Unit is separate from the sound amplifier. Then this aftermarket head unit will be a direct plug-and-play replacement using the standard wiring adapter lead provided. But you also need the Fiber Optic(MOST) adapter for Mercedes-Benz. The adapter is optional, please add it from the drop-box. It makes this new radio work with the original Harman/Kardon Logic 7 Surround Sound System and ALL car speakers work as before. Check more info about the  Fiber Optic(MOST) adapter for Mercedes-Benz.

This is my Second order, we sold the SLK280, and got a 2006 SLK350. OEM radio would turn on by itself wearing down battery, CD did not work, No Bluetooth, no Back up Camera, all requirements requested by my Wife. My STG-1 Radio had two small ports which required a overly long 9' Loom, that could have been easily reduced to 2', that cost another $59 to properly connect this radio to the amp in the passenger foot well. I pitched a fit and was not happy, because my first purchase was a direct fit that did not require all the additional work in the foot well. Hindsight I figured it out, and hopefully they post the picture of the proper hook ups to the amp with this long ass loom. I tried to attach it and could not. Here is the link for removal of the Radio and simply reverse instructions to install it ,takes 10 minutes to remove. Click on Skip Ads to get to it on the right side bottom. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_gf0Lgi_HY To get to the amp, I had to remove 3 screws (all screws are T20 torx for the whole installation including dash), anyway to remove the plastic tray under dash and immediately above your feet on the passenger side footwell. There is a 12v female plug that you will take a small screwdriver and simply press down on the 90 degree connector, no squeezing involved. at the seam nearest you, you simply pop it straight out from the transmission hump side which has a small clip. There is a vent connected that you will have to remove after removal to reinstall, it is best to squeeze the attachments and pull up on each one and put a spacer like a nickel under them as you go along to prevent them from reconnection to remove vent and install it before you attempt to reinstall this piece and work it to proper fit, will have to wiggle it into position to align screw holes, but before you reinstall the 3 front screws you will have to snap the attachments of the vent to this upper plate, then screw it in. NOTE: If you think you can pass the wires from the Radio Console to the footwell, just remove the clip section at the seam of transmission hump and pull it back far enough to pass the very long loom to the footwell and the USB and the Back up camera looms, It is flexible use common sense and don't force it further than needed. I believe you would not have to remove the upper plate afore mentioned and save some time and headaches. I wanted to see everything and went a step further imo. The carpet after removal of the Floor mat, you simply reach up to the top of the carpet at the firewall and pull back as far as it will let you, that is protected by a styrofoam shield that you grab at the top and just wiggle it up till it releases from the bottom metal protector clips. which is just barely enough to get to the 3 plastic 10mm nuts that hold the metal amp protector, 1 top facing you and two more at bottom of metal protector. This will reveal the Amp! My Radio STG-1 had two simple hook ups, this Carnaviplayer stereo had several, had to buy a 9' Loom that connects stereo to passenger foot well located amp, which used the top two connectors on Right side, and the top left one and antenna plug on left side bottom, which you have to force fit but will connect to get the radio As far as the GPS antenna after finding the port on the back, I ran the wire up on the left side and put it on top of my speaker about 6" exposed cord and squeeze fit it in the crack on the vent to drivers side dash, it is magnetic and has not moved on its position on the speaker grill yet. Count the male prongs to the female receptors for proper location of their supplied cords, which you will have many left overs that don't apply to this stereo but possibly other radios by Mercedes. I just ran the USB cables down the passenger side to the woven basket storage area and the back up cable as well. Upon mentioning the back up camera cable my SLK of course is a Hard top convertible and I tried finding and area to drill for the pass through of the cable, and after removal of the trunk plate behind the tag on the underside of the lid and a thought of passing through the same hole on the drivers side main connector close to the hinge, I have decided that I will again pull back the carpet in the upper area firewall on the left of the amp area of the passenger footwell, and pass them through there and silicone after completion of connection. I then will remove the two plastic scrub plates on the underside of the car on the passenger side and zip tie some areas, run it to the back and install my camera on the gas tank scrub plastic plate located at the very rear and aim the camera from there (all underneath no bumper or tag areas drilled). I used a screw gun to remove everything and if you use a screw gun to reinstall everything, make sure you go slow and put the clutch on 1, I suggest hand driven installation (some one broke a couple clips by over tightening mine from the previous owner days!) It is Plastic people only snug not tight! Closing comments: You can do it! My CANBUS BOX toggle settings were preset all in the top position ready to use and the did not inform we of this and I used the sticker locations for SL series which was 2 up and 2 down, and when I mentioned I was having some issues they decided to let me know they preset it, a note or email would have been helpful. They put up with me and kept in contact, just have to wait until China time to communicate around 6 pm as I recall. They must have done improvements in the last two years, this upgrade is superb! Only complaint screen is hard to read in the daylight, maybe they can email me instructions to make it more visible. I would suggest this product to DYI types and save a thousand bucks! I think my total bill was $550 with shipping.

There are several good comments regarding installation and I thought I would add a few items. The unit fit perfectly and works flawlessly in my 2006 AMG 55 SLK; Most of my comments will apply to all SLKs from same model years. Allen provides a link to a video and for the most part, it is good. There are a few other ones out there. All have a few grey areas, but if you see them a few times, you will work through some issues. I will also address a few. Torx 20 is the primary tool. You will also need a prying tool. I read that all screws were not the same. I did not verify, but I segregated them using baggies. So I had a bag for ashtray/lighter screws, one for AC panel screws, one for head unit screws, and one for cupholder screws. I have an automatic. You need it in park and the parking brake on so you can move the shifter plate back far enough to remove the ashtray. You do not need to unplug anything except the old head unit. In fact, I recommend against it. I did not remove the cable from the negative terminal. All components can be moved to the side or far enough away to comfortably remove and replace the head. By far, the longest and most tedious step will be the location of the GPS antenna. I read where someone put it near the center speaker but underneath. Didn?t make much sense until I removed the Cockpit vent unit. It?s located above the cup holder. It takes some persuasion, but the best method for me was to lift it from the bottom and rock it slowly to and fro while lifting more. There are three clips. Two metal clips are on the sides and a plastic clip is at the top. Eventually, the side clips will disengage. If you continue to lift, the top clip will also. I put the GPS antenna unit inside the vent. I ran the wire out from one of the openings and notched the area so the wire could pass and not affect the vent operation. My GPS gets excellent reception and the antenna is not visible. I struggled a little to reattach the unit until I realized there are three rails on each side and the center rail must align with guides on each side. Allen was very helpful and if requested, he provides an operator?s manual. Good luck deciphering that. Overall, you will glean enough to set up your unit.

Very satisfied with this kit to my Mercedes SLK200 -2005, with a lot of optional connection cables supplied. Still I needed to buy a FM-antenna cable (10$) due to wrong connection interface included, but no big problem. All features worked, such as Apple Carplay adaptor and reverse camera. i.e. good quality experience so far. Now I'm considering to upgrade my second car BMW 320 - 2013 , because I want the Apple CarPlay interface there as well.

I had initially posted a negative review about this radio, but I take it all back. the only problem is that it takes a while to figure out the menu, because the op manual is poorly written. Once you figure out how to make everything work, the system is really quite wonderful. The sound is better than the original MB stereo. The functionality is great, and the menu is easy to navigate once you know what you're doing. I emailed Allen a couple of times to get clarification on the features, and he always responded with helpful info. I highly recommend this deck. (it also looks really fabulous in the car, especially at night.... lights up beautifully.

I was hesitant to purchase a non-branded unit from an overseas on-line retailer for my R171 SLK, but reviews on various forums were positive. I chose carnaviplayer.com because Allen was extremely responsive in answering my questions about his product. The purchase process was seamless and DHL delivered my new radio in three days. The box contained exactly what carnaviplayer described on its website, well-boxed and well-protected. The real test came after the sale. While the radio is truly plug-and-play, I still had questions through the installation. For example, it comes with two main harnesses, and you have to choose which one fits. Similarly I wasn't sure how to get Android Auto to work. I emailed Allen probably a half-dozen times with questions and he always responded quickly and helpfully, sometimes within minutes but generally within hours. He never made me feel stupid and his answers were spot-on. The installation was simple. I took a couple hours overall to do it but I was extremely careful, if I had to do it again I could do it in 30 minutes. The biggest reason I can recommend carnaviplayer is the service I received. I have purchased items from on-line vendors before and required customer service. For example I purchased an item from West Elm furniture store on line and I never had the same customer service person twice - and it took four months to resolve a simple billing issue. In contrast, Allen is responsiveness was top-notch. I recommend his company to anyone seeking to install an IOS- or Android-compatible nav system in their Mercedes. As to the Navi unit itself, it does exactly what the website describes. The resolution is excellent and the performance works great. Once I figured out how to access Android Auto (always use the white dongle) it is easy and very functional. The only downside to Android Auto is the sharpness of the resolution is not as good as the software on the unit itself - but still really good, and that's an Android issue not a Navi unit issue. Overall I'm extremely happy with the Navi system and more importantly extremely happy with carnaviplayer.

EXCELLENT COMMUNICATION! Received unit in approximately 1 week from ordering. Truly plug-n-play and works great. I had to call only because of a user error on my part. Would definitely recommend.

Ok, When ordering the Main page you must do your selections on that screen NOT the Cart, and you can make adjustment for extras afte you get to the cart, otherwise your total will not be what you expect, they mean "DON"T NEED" and say "NOT NEED" and they really should put the additional features (ex. Rear view camera, etc.) and prices on the checkout CART side. The Radio is an exact fit, but thanks to NO INSTRUCTIONS it took about 4 hours to complete the installation. Took me about 15 minutes to remove the old one. Either way you save about $200-$300 bucks doing it yourself and my labor is free. If you have a Convertible in hind sight I would have put the window and top down if you have a carport or garage for easier access for the installation, I am 6'3". I only unhooked the cars electrical wiring on the console shifter portion, (4 simple squeeze tab type and they only fit their associated females) mine was an automatic transmission/shifter section off), then you will need to turn the underside of shifter knob knurled plastic collar nut a half turn counter clock wise and then pull the knob straight up ( I put in Neural position before popping the rear up and you have to remove two screws for the ash tray and cigarette light to complete the removal) Then you can remove the whole shifter console plate, and all other parts have long enough wiring to simply move out of your way, that way you don't have to worry about breaking the plastic tabs trying to remove them, if you want to remove them go ahead and waste your time. Some moron was in the dash first and over tightened screws and caused two on the A/C controls to be broken in mine, so just finger tighten them. They do not have any instructions and give you two main power adaptor pigtails, so when you attach the one you think it is it will blow a couple fuses before you pick the one that ends in 3, for a 2006 SLK280. The Pigtail comes with a antenna end that you THINK works directly with the unit and won't need the female port that comes with the unit. And you would be mistaken. So you will need the one that looks like a male prong with a dual port white end, use only one side of that white end that fits your cars female supply from its antenna. The supply a large to small antenna adaptor that I did not need. The CANBUS box will need to be used and my SLK series was 2 down 2 up for the red toggles on the unit, just read what you need for your model.I didn't use the USB pigtail as we had one on the passenger side console . The antenna for the GPS, I ran the cable on the left of the drink holder, push it in the crack top left drivers side before I installed the Radio and left a foot of cord and ran it with the cable exposed along the edge of the top centered speaker and used the CANBUS Velcro (As I just left it loose in the dash with the other adaptors and wires that I did not use as not to lose them in the future behind the ash tray on the carpet before I reversed this whole process putting it back together, as well as the cable that I did not have to use with the amplifier and separate speaker/amp hook ups that are colored red, white, yellow, blue ends (VCR and AUDIO) in case someone wanted to put a amp in later and they would have it. The reverse camera I hooked the two matching yellow male and female prongs together, and the two small red wires together with a wire nut and just shoved the 3 meters of left over cord buy pushing the bottom of the console cover out and dropping it down by the drivers shin with the red and black wire you "NOT NEED" (Will need) as you will have to figure out how to run that to the back to the trunk and find your reverse light and hook power to Power and ground to the ground wire of that light, and the tag light cover will have to be removed and the one they supply fits right in there with the camera already attached, All the males fit only one fitting supplied on the new radio, so don't worry about screwing that up. And before you get started unhook the positive wire from your battery, until you are ready. Again this should work on SLK's I hope it helps. Overall the unit worked great, Bluetooth connected, GPS, I set my home address as a shortcut and then picked an address and it found it quickly. still will have to figure out how to properly use all the Radio's features, but all the speakers worked properly and the last Mercedes I did it needed adaptors, trim kit, wire to wire connections, and was ugly and a real pain in the Tush to install. This is a direct fit with all the supplied pigtails and adaptors. So I am going to rate this 5 star for the Product. Be patient when you press the Round dial to turn it on as the Mercedes symbol cycles a bit before it says it is ready to play radio, dvd, etc. I hope this helps, I have installed about 50 stereo's in my day and they all came with instructions. And every product I have ever had that requires assembly or installation did have instructions. I mean for someone doing this the first time, I could imagine a lot of discouragement, and it is not fun to fail. The satisfaction of doing it yourself is a great reward and saves money. The company does its best to communicate via email, but should be horse whipped for sending a product with NO INSTRUCTIONS. Here is a link to removal of you stereo to help. Good luck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_gf0Lgi_HY

Radio is fantastic and a high upgrade to my 2007 original! Had an issue with install where I set the CANBOX to the wrong setting but Allen was quick to diagnose the issue and tell me how to correct it. It now works great. Allen was crazy fast in responding to my emails! Only issue was a lack of any instructions for the install. I have changed a few in my time so I was able to figure it out but it did take some time. Overall great product and outstanding customer service!
