FAQ: This head unit is plugged and play. It has the same plug and harness as the original radio. But you guys may still have some questions refer to installation.

1. Why the radio reception is terrible?

Answer: You need to power the radio booster to make it work. The radio booster adapter is sold separately: Fakra(Z) to DIN(m) with Booster radio antenna adapter.

2. Where should I mount the GPS antenna?

Answer: You can mount the GPS antenna on the dashboard's middle or right top corner.

3. Where should I mount the external Microphone?

Answer: Our radio has an internal microphone. Usually, you do not need to install the external Microphone. But you can buy an external microphone if you think the internal Microphone's sound quality is not good. For example, you can mount the external Microphone on the A-pillar and near your head to get good voice call quality.

4. How can I install the backup Camera?

Answer: Please check this link: Touareg Backup camera

5. There is not enough room for the harness, which causes the radio to pop up on the dashboard.
Answer: Please cut the plastic parts as shown below photo. Then there will be enough room behind the radio allows you to clear up the harness. These plastic are unused, and you can restore the factory radio after cutting them.

Just installed Model Number: 991-C042 In my 2004 touareg.
Did a ton of research on different models on the lower price as I didn\'t want to put more money into an old car than I already had. I was looking at the Pioneer App Radio 3 as it had a great price, but it had to run off my iPhone, plus I would have to buy the correct wire harness and steering wheel controller. After doing the math, CarNaviPlayer was the way to go. I must say you cannot find a better product with as many features and options for the money. It looks like it was made by VW and comes out of the 2009-2010 navigation Touaregs. Pros: Allen has the best service I have ever received from any company, perfect fit, amazing price, plays DVDs, Bluetooth, Bluetooth audio, backup camera option, USB audio, aux inputs, wifi (really slow but cool), stunning GPS, and best of all the sound is truly amazing so much better than stock unit (sounds like I just installed all new speakers). Cons: iPod/iPhone music navigation is poor (almost impossible to use like the majority of factory or aftermarket stereo units), USB music takes all your separate album files and combines them into one giant album (does great at showing album covers), radio reception is OK (had to use booster to get OK sound), can respond a little slow to touch. Overall, if you own a 2004-2010 Touareg, you must own this unit. I was trying to buy a unit on the cheap and after crunching the numbers, I couldn\'t have found a better deal. Hope there is an update to the unit to fix some of the iPhone/iPod issues to make this unit perfect. I don\'t listen to FM radio and instead purchased a SiriusXM Edge unit and hooked up into the Aux input.

I\'ve had that s100 in for about a month now... love it. Replaced the stock nav in my 05\' the iGo nav is lightning fast. Had it professionally installed tho that wire harness just looked a bit too intense for me. Ended up doing all new interiors and sub off after market amp. Radio performance blew away my skeptic installer.... radio gets an A+!

2008 VW Touareg w/ Factory RNS2 DVD Nav I did a lot of research before pulling the trigger. Maintaining a stock look and feel is paramount for me and so I considered the RNS-510 but for the price it simply wasn\'t worth it. This bridged that gap to allow for the extended functionality and better maps like the RNS-510 would provide but at 1/3 of the cost. I took the dive and purchased the device. The install was pretty straight forward. I purchased the antenna booster at the same time and soldered everything up before so when i started the install it was pretty much a straight swap. Honestly the hardest thing was running the wire and replacing the reverse camera only because i had to remove some panels from the back hatch. I am happy with the functionality of the device and the maps are FAR Superior to even those used by the RNS-510. And are MUCH cheaper to update from this site! Overall this was a very good project and i am happy with the outcome. The sound is great and it has all the functionality i could hope for. If you are considering this unit for an upgrade take my advice and do it! One final bit of advice... don\'t assume when making decision for the Extension Cable. I assumed my amp was digital and it was not. They Allen quickly sent me the shorter cable but i could have saved them and myself some time had i simply asked the question of which i needed first. Allen is VERY helpful and quick to respond. Recommend!

Additional feedback after use the unit two weeks. It really does look like it came from the factory in the Touareg which was one of the main reasons I chose this unit. I\'ve been using it now for a couple of weeks and am getting more familiar with the controls and it is working great. Interesting that he pointed out in the video concerning the space by the SD slot. I had the same experience of having to take the unit out of the dash, take the faceplate off to retrieve the SD card. Once you do it once, you won\'t make that mistake again. Once I get the antenna booster installed, I\'ll let everyone know how that works. Also at some point down the road, I plan on changing out the factory speakers, amp and adding a subwoofer. I saw a great thread on the clubtouareg forum of a great install that xylene did that inspired me. All that to say, I have been very happy with this unit!

The screen is much better. Still slow to react at times, but the screen calibration has helped. I finally found a micro SD card reader so that I could go into the maps file and make the simple changes that Allen suggested and the GPS works great now. There is diffidently a learning curve with this model, for instance, I still haven\'t figured out how to store a radio station as a preset favorite and I\'m starting to get used to the different menus and abilities of this unit. One real complaint yet is the radio reception. Allen recommended getting a FM signal booster which I\'ll get around to eventually. Overall, I\'m pleased with the operation of the controls. The sound is a huge improvement over the old factory nav unit. I also love the way it looks, like it belongs there right from VW. Still plan on getting some photos post in the next few days, have to set up the reverse camera and at some point I plan on purchasing a signal processor and other amp/speakers to further improve on the sound.

Product is of excellent quality and sounds better than expected! Bought for my 2004 Touareg Sound 1 and I did not have to bypass the amp to make it work! Simple plug and play!

I just purchased from Allen a Navigation Unit with Wireless Camera + Free Shipping (Black Friday Special) 5 minutes ago for my V8 and I have to say Allen has been nothing but A+++++++ thus far in answering all my questions, concerns and assisting me since last night. The unit will only take 3-5 days to be delivered to me here in Miami via FedEx and the Tracking # provided. That is just lightning fast !!!! So far I have to say there is no reason for me to doubt this is an amazing deal and a great opportunity for the rest of you to take advantage of this great offer by Allen and his company. I'll venture out and say that to me as to many of you who have bought from Allen Wong in the past, he is just a nice guy trying to sell his product and build himself and his company a good reputation for new and repeat business, and for I have experienced up to this point in dealing with him he has gained my trust and business. Guys: I'm impressed and very happy with this unit, and even happier with Allen's customer service. Even while I was installing the unit I sent an email to Allen in the middle of the installation and he responded immediately. . Simply OUTSTANDING support and service from him. You'd be missing out big time by not buying this great upgrade for your Touareg no matter what year.

Finally, I get a chance to do this write-up. First of all, Happy New Year to all fellow Treggers wishing a year filled with lots of joyful driving on our Tregs and less of workshop visits for us all. Anyway, I managed to book a last-minute deal with Allen on the Android S150 and was literally counting the minutes to receive and install the unit on my Treg. Bless you, Allen for your patience and superb service to arrange the shipments to Indonesia. I guess it goes without saying and it has been proven once again that Allen really is a bonafide and respected seller and his after-sales service is beyond most online sellers. I really appreciate his attention and would recommend him to anyone who is in the market for a new unit for their Tregs). In the meantime, I've installed hotspot wifi for my car, been listening to BBC and some Aussie radio stations via a radio app, and have impressed many friends and colleagues, and family with this unit. I've even got the clubtouareg app installed to catch up with some reading on those long traffic jams (traffic down here averages around 20km/h *sigh*). Planning to install Torque soon for OBD2 emergencies. Definitely a good buy!

I actually just installed mine yesterday from carnaviplayer.com with the android system in my 2004 V8. I've used pioneer and ken wood double Dins for years. This thing is by far the best unit I've ever had. Extremely responsive no lag, navigation is on point the features are endless and the unit itself looks and feels completely OEM. Above all it comes completely plug and play. No need to buy a harness, car mount, or anything of the sort. For the price u pay for the unit, everything is included even the tools to pull out the old one.

perfect fit, easy install, love love love it! don't be discouraged once you're all set and ready to push the deck back into place, it's a VERY snug fit with all the extra little transmitter boxes and whatnot - be patient and stuff everything back and away as far as possible and slide the unit in evenly and firmly. and be careful not to scratch your seat warmer buttons up, I did, use a towel to protect them. by Gaberial Hill

Super easy install if you want basic functionality. The wiring harness is plug-and-play. 1. GPS was easy to install, simply run the antenna where you want it (I drilled a hole in the center of the dash and went straight in through the center tray to the head unit). The GPS iGo software on this unit blows my Magellan out of the water. It's not even a fair comparison, I cannot say enough good things about it. 2. The DVD player is cool, works when driving too, and plays through the factory speakers. A great feature for my daughter who is whiny during long road trips. 3. iPod connection works very well, I drilled a small hole in the glove box to run the wire to the deck and simply connect my iPod to the glove box and I have access to all my music. 4. The unit does work well with steering wheel controls. It does not work with the mini display, it blacks that out. I would have given this unit 5 stars if it had come with installation instructions. by Ian Osborne

Install was a bit of a nightmare and the pre-amp was set way too high. I like it in general, nice display and great sound. My biggest complaint is that the android auto takes a while to boot up and occasionally bugs out. Also, the clock won't keep time properly and needs adjusting once in a while and the DSP resets to default if I don't drive for a day. It's a good solution if your head unit goes as mine did, but again the installation was really difficult to fit everything. I haven't installed the backup cam yet. Allen has good customer service when you email him.

Hello, just installed mine this week ( 2 units, one on my reg and one on my fathers reg, both 2004 V8, one with air suspension and on with out, both do not have stock NAV).. Everything seems to be working fine. i will write up a full review in about a week, once i really test everything out. What i can say for now is: shipping was EXTREMELY fast, 4 days from china to Canada. Very happy with that. one thing though, which i havnt gotten the chance to communicate with them yet about is, the plastic on the wiring harness was cracked on one and a piece was broken off on the other one, nothing major. I was still able to use them and they fit fine. One remote is all cracked broken which i'm sure they will be happy to help me out with finding a solution for. Things like this happen, so my advice for them is maybe when packing the accessories, just make sure their placed nicely so they dont break. Over all I'm super happy with the shipping, cant complain at all. The unit really is plug and play but I would of liked a wiring diagram. I say this because to connect the trucks connecter to the connecter of the unit is no problem, but there is other lose wires which are part of the units harness that im note really sure what their purpose is, so I just left them there for now. it is impossible to connect the RCA wires to the aux because this is not enough space (the unit doesnt go in, it's missing about 1/2" or 15mm. The only way that it can be done is if a 90 degree is used or a smaller adapter ( but i honestly don't know what the RCA wires do, connected or not connected I cant tell a difference. If anyone knows what they do, let me know please ) To install the frist unit ( because i bought 2 one for each reg) it took me about 2.5 hours because it took me a while to find a nice place to pass the GPS antenna up on to the dashboard with out making any holes anywhere. (when i write the next review, will post pics on how i did it). The iPhone wire i didn't pass yet, it will get done once i install the back up camera. It took me awhile to place all the wires so that the unit fit in perfect. The second unit took me 45 minutes to install and that's because i had a hard time placing the wire behind the unit again, or else it would of took about 25 minutes. The unit look's AMAZING. It look totally original, if the person doesn't know about the touareg, they'll think it original. The communication was great, email response very quick. oh and i forgot to mention, even in -22 degree Celsius weather, its working fine. Nicholas

just installed mine. Got 4 keys and yeah, it's a b*tch to stuff those cables in - I stuck the factory connector up and to the left - then it still just would NOT go in. I finally pulled the RCA connectors out of the Aux input on the back - schnick! it went in all the way. Needs 90 bends on the connectors, there wasn't room in back with the RCA connectors sticking out. Love the sound. It's even louder than the stock unit, which does rock. The stock cd player couldn't handle writeable cd's - this unit does. The bluetooth was easy to hook up. I was hoping for an aux. port on the front, so as to use any-old mp3 player - but I'm pretty happy with it. My wife had the stock stereo almost out before I got outside (her car, and she loves the new player). I haven't tried the rear camera yet. Instructions - I can see why they aren't car specific. I'm a former mechanic/now a telcom tech - I can figure it out, but some basics would be good to have included. by deepmud

Just a quick review, having had this unit now for a month. I haven't gotten the rear camera wired up yet. I am impressed, that for the price, this unit does everything I want it to and looks OEM, feels solid, good responsive touchscreen, and interface. It is "plug and play", except that my shipment was missing a needed antenna cable and I had to search around to find one at a stereo shop. The instructions are minimal, and the translation of the owner's manual is very poor, to the point of useless. However, everything seems very intuitive with the exception being the ipod/iphone interface.... 1) navigation is excellent, maps up to date even in rural Canada. Better than my factory audi setup in other vehicle. 2) the bluetooth works with a built-in microphone; sometimes incoming calls sound tinny, other times more clear. People on the other end report they can hear me fine but definitely sounds like I'm in the car on a speakerphone. I might look into a better microphone to put up closer to my face on the drivers' A pillar, as some others have done, for better clarity. I can't get my iphone to stream over the bluetooth, but I think that's a known problem with apple ios6, rather than the head unit. 3) the FM reception is good, even though this must be bypassing part of the diversity antenna setup. I also can get good reception on the one AM station in my area, although I don't ever listen to it. I didn't buy the TV tuner. 4) the DVD player works while in motion, handy for the kids in the back seat, hopefully I won't get a ticket while its on, not supposed to be able to watch on the screen while driving here. 5) the iphone interface is really lacking; it comes up just with an alphabetical list of songs, and it takes multiple button presses to find artists/playlists/etc.I may try to jailbreak my phone so I can control the playback from the phone itself. 6) the sound quality overall is excellent, better than the standard stock stereo. 7) I miss the satellite radio capability, but if I really want it I suppose I can get the app on my phone and play it through the aux input. The screen does wash out with bright sunlight or glare, and also doesn't dim at night when the cabin lights dim, but doesn't bother me. My volume controls work, that's all I use anyway on the steering wheel, I have the basic red MFD and it doesn't show anything in that, but who cares. And, there are a whole lot of cables and hardware behind the unit that make it really challenging to get it back in locked position; mine is still sticking out 1/2 inch until I get the camera installed. All in all, for a price less than $500, does 95% of what I would want an RNS510 to do, for about 25% of the price. Couldn't really be happier. No affiliation, just my initial impressions of what seems to be a good value unit. Also, despite lack of documentation, the customer service emails are very responsive and quick. The thing shipped from China to eastern Canada in 4 days; must be some kind of record. Mark G
